Product Description

Iris ensata Thunb.: A perennial herb, the base of the plant is surrounded by residual fibers of leaf sheaths. The rhizome is robust, obliquely extending, and covered with brownish leaf sheath fibers; the fibrous roots are rope-like, grayish-white, with wrinkled transverse stripes. The leaves are linear, with prominent midribs on both sides. The flower stem is cylindrical, solid, with 1-3 stem leaves; there are 3 bracts, nearly leathery, lanceolate, containing 2 flowers; the flowers are deep purple, with a diameter of 9-10 cm; the outer tepals are obovate, while the inner tepals are smaller, upright, and narrowly lanceolate or broad linear. The capsule is long-oval, with a short beak at the top, 6 prominent ribs, and splits from the top down to 1/3 when mature; the seeds are brownish, flat, semi-circular, with winged edges. The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruiting period is from August to September.
