Planting Areas

It can be harvested and utilized 60-90 days after sowing, serving as short-term forage in the summer in the north or in the winter in the south. It can be sown alone or mixed with legumes such as sweet potatoes and annual clover.

Field Management

In the cold northern regions of our country, spring sowing is often carried out, with a harvest period of about 60 to 70 days; early spring sowing or late summer sowing is effective in North China; in East and South China, sowing can be done in the autumn after harvesting rice or corn, with harvest in the following spring. Oats are generally sown in rows, with a seeding rate of 7-8 kg per mu, and a sowing depth of no more than 5 cm. It is best to harvest hay during the booting stage, and silage should be harvested at the late milk stage. Oats are sensitive to nitrogen fertilizer, so attention should be paid to top-dressing with nitrogen.
