Water Management in Landscape Greening Maintenance

Water in the pipeline is often used because its quality is guaranteed. However, tap water contains chlorine used for disinfection, which requires a period of standing before it can be used. This can be difficult in situations where a large volume of water is needed. Additionally, having the water temperature the same as room temperature is a basic requirement in management, but it is also challenging to control when water usage is high.

1. Water Quality

The water in the pipeline is often used because its quality is guaranteed, but the tap water contains chlorine for disinfection, which needs to be left to stand for a period of time before it can be used. This can make water treatment difficult when a large volume of water is needed. Additionally, having the water temperature the same as the room temperature is the most basic requirement in management, but it is also difficult to control when the water usage is high.

Rainwater, except for the initial portion, can be considered ideal for greening as it does not contain various other substances. When designing buildings, rainwater utilization technology should be actively promoted if possible.

Reclaimed water, due to its nitrogen and phosphorus content, can easily form sticky soil when it enters the ground, leading to blockages in irrigation systems, so preventive measures must be taken. Moreover, water with excessive nitrogen content can affect the normal growth of plants, and without rainfall indoors to wash the soil, it can easily lead to the accumulation of fertilizers and salts. Therefore, when using reclaimed water, it is advisable to avoid high nitrogen and phosphorus content as much as possible.

2. Watering Methods

If using watering facilities, simply operate according to their usage instructions and check regularly. However, if watering manually, the experience and quality of the operator will directly affect plant growth, which mainly relates to the operator's understanding of soil characteristics, especially when using natural soil. The appropriate degree of manual watering should ensure that the soil surface does not splash, accumulate water, or flow. However, if the watering intensity is reduced and the watering time is extended, it may result in the soil slope not being penetrated by water, so it is best to have experienced personnel operate or strictly follow the requirements.

3. Interval Time

Due to the lack of rainfall indoors and weak wind, the evaporation of the soil surface is slow. In this case, try to extend the watering interval to allow the soil to dry out and breathe air. The length of the interval varies depending on the soil's water retention and air humidity, and watering once every 3-7 days is sufficient. If using nutrient solution cultivation or felt-type seepage cultivation, the interval can be extended accordingly. The best time to water is early in the morning when the plants have just awakened and there are fewer people.

4. Water Volume

The amount of water for irrigation varies based on the watering interval, soil water retention, and air humidity. The amount of water for each irrigation should be controlled below the soil's water retention capacity, usually around 10-20 liters per square meter, to maintain a certain interval.

5. Irrigation Equipment

Generally, drip irrigation machines with timers are commonly used, or automated irrigation machines that link timers with soil moisture detection devices. Watering and cleaning the plant leaves are mostly done manually.
